So if you haven’t been living under a rock, you will know that “boxer braids” are all the rage right now ever since Kim Kardashian started wearing them recently.

But this is by far not a new style and MANY, people are offended (including myself) by the main stream media calling them ‘boxer braids’ because in the black community all over the world, people have been wearing these braids and almost everyone knows they are called corn rows.

So i'm sorry if you are offended but IT IS NOT YOUR HAIR STYLE SO YOU DONT GET TO RENAME IT! Very influential shows like Fashion Police and E! News and big fashion magazines are calling these braids 'boxer braids". The terms are Cornrows, Dutch Braids And French braids.

We all know that this generation is VERY sensitive towards everything and cultural appropriation is one of the biggest ones. But in this case, they are right to be upset because the style is being worn by tons of Caucasian celebrities and even on runways for major fashion shows. The upsetting part is not that caucasian people are wearing the hairstyle, it is that they're rebranding it as their own.

It is not wrong for other cultures to celebrate and want to do hairstyles and other trends of other cultures except when the culture that is appropriating the trend receives the credit. This is the ‘Dashiki’ story all over again.

But back to the braids, we should be glad that we can all wear this hairstyle weather we are black, white, Chinese, Mexican or whatever race and color. This is also a beautiful protective style and once you learn how to do these braids, it’s like riding a bike, it will be so easy. Just remember to RESPECT the name.
