But this is by far not a new style and MANY, people are offended (including myself) by the main stream media calling them ‘boxer braids’ because in the black community all over the world, people have been wearing these braids and almost everyone knows they are called corn rows.

So i'm sorry if you are offended but IT IS NOT YOUR HAIR STYLE SO YOU DONT GET TO RENAME IT! Very influential shows like Fashion Police and E! News and big fashion magazines are calling these braids 'boxer braids". The terms are Cornrows, Dutch Braids And French braids.

We all know that this generation is VERY sensitive towards everything and cultural appropriation is one of the biggest ones. But in this case, they are right to be upset because the style is being worn by tons of Caucasian celebrities and even on runways for major fashion shows. The upsetting part is not that caucasian people are wearing the hairstyle, it is that they're rebranding it as their own.

It is not wrong for other cultures to celebrate and want to do hairstyles and other trends of other cultures except when the culture that is appropriating the trend receives the credit. This is the ‘Dashiki’ story all over again.

But back to the braids, we should be glad that we can all wear this hairstyle weather we are black, white, Chinese, Mexican or whatever race and color. This is also a beautiful protective style and once you learn how to do these braids, it’s like riding a bike, it will be so easy. Just remember to RESPECT the name.

Wide legged, just below the knee, weirdly shaped, and as some might argue somewhat unflattering. Ring a bell? No? Well I’m talking about “culottes”. Most people don’t know this, but culottes were first worn in the 20’s.  

Ryan Gosling?

They were worn by men up until the 30’s when women started wearing them. They came back into fashion in the 70's and then again in the 90's. Originating at the turn of the last century partly in response to the bicycle craze, culottes were designed as the ultimate skirt for a feminist or, basically, any woman who needed to ride a horse like an actual person.  

The Guardian also reminds us that in 1931, “fashion visionary” Elsa Schiaparelli adopted the style and, in doing so, “unified the British press: they hated it. Culottes as we know them were considered manly, with hints of lesbianism.”  

Culottes were initially called spilt or divided skirts. Over the years just as time would have it, fashion has evolved and new trends have come and gone. The thing about fashion is trends never die. They may fade but not die. And this is the case with the culottes. Although lurking in ignored sections of thrift stores everywhere for an extended time, decades later, and culottes are back in a big way and have been for a while now. But the way they are styled is totally different from the 70’s and 90’s why? Well because we not in the 70’s or 90’s. There are so many ways to style culottes and below is my take on how to style them and still look chic, swagged out, and not like you stuck in the past century.

“For the casual Monday look”. This look is perfect for those Mondays you are trying to achieve the cool but stylish girl look. Pair a simple top with your culottes. For this look; I of course had to go with my “Monday motivation” top.

“Girl’s brunch”. This look is perfect for a brunch or lunch date with your girls. It helps you achieve that easy going fresh stylish look without looking overdressed. Plus you can never look too stylish when it’s time for that selfie before you guys part ways

For a more formal look say for a presentation or meeting trying adding a blazer to the ensemble and viola!!!!!! instant modern day professional cool chic.

Music always been a huge part of my workouts and it can be for you too. Music can change your attitude towards your entire workout routine. If you’re anything like me, the pace of your workouts is highly affected by the tempo of the music you listen to. So I customize my playlists to go with my workouts.

Each song on my list goes with a workout.  This will give you an idea of similar songs you can pair with your workouts.

1. Feeling Myself – Nicki Minaj ft. Beyoncé

This is one of my favorite warm up songs because first of all, who doesn’t love Queen Bey? I also like to listen to the words of songs to amp me up for my workouts and this is just a sexy song that makes you feel confident about yourself. This is not a full up tempo song it is on the slower side.

2. Here it is – Flo Rida ft. Chris Brown. 

This one is an up tempo EDM style song with the first line “if you’re waiting for the moment, here it is…” this just motivate me even more because what time is better than now?

3. M.I.A -Bring The Noise

This is definitely a high energy up tempo song. It is one of the songs that match my step tempo weather I am running up stairs or jogging/running. The lyrics don't even matter and you can barely here what she's saying anyway.

4. Sexy Lady – Jessie J 

This is my favorite motivation song when I am getting towards the end of my cardio rep and getting really tired. The words of this song are a great pick me up with lyrics like “yeah, you better give em’ everything you got, just show em’ you’re a sexy lady…”

5. Serayah – Look But Don’t Touch 

In case you don’t know who Serayah is, she plays the role of the pop star Tiana in the FOX hit show “Empire” and this is actually a song performed on the show and it’s another fast tempo fun song. Great for working abs because that’s a pretty herd part of the workout. Again motivational lyrics “bout to get summer time fine for the bad boys…” everybody wants a hot summer body.

6. Ciara – Work 

When you think of Ciara, one of the first things that come to mind is; great body and perfect abs so it’s only right to listen to her dance charged song work. You better work!

7. Chris Brown – Blue Jeans 

Chris Brown makes a second appearance because he is the king of up tempo dance songs. This song makes you want to work out your butt as he sings “can’t stop thinking ‘bout how I’m gon’ take you’re blue jeans off…” as they say, ‘no one ever wrote a song about a flat ass.’

8. Ciara ft. Nicki Minaj – I’m Out 

Welcome back Cici and Nicki with this hit song. Motivation? Watch the video and see how great they look and the opening line “Ladies it’s your song so as soon as this comes on you should get out on the floor, go and get your sexy on…” awesome!

9. Janelle Monae & Jidenna - Yoga 

The title says it all, yoga. Makes you wanna stretch and relax while still having fun.

10. Chris Brown – Anyway 

It’s only right to end with this song. You cool down, stretch out and while you bask in your confident amazing feeling from the work out, the lyrics repeated are “cause’ I will love you anyway…”
